Mission
In Ireland there are currently eleven ECM workers in four locations. In Tramore, the team is working alongside local leadership to develop an established church plant. In Waterford City, the team are planting a church and are involved in various activities including Kids, Youth, University, Bible Studies and reaching out into the community. In Dublin, we are helping to develop women’s ministry in a well established city church. In Claremorris, we are at the beginnings of a new church-plant.
ECM Vision
Ireland is, especially since the separation of the North and South in 1922, a Catholic country. For the vast majority, being Irish equals being Catholic. However, in the last two decades, Mass attendance has decreased dramatically, largely due to several well publicised religious scandals, and also a growing emphasis on materialism in (what was) a rapidly expanding economy. But with the current doom and gloom of the economic crisis, many Irish are in need of hope.
In the last two decades, there has been significant growth in the number and size of evangelical churches in Ireland. While many churches are still small in number, they have a wider witness than in decades past. ECM hopes that these churches will increase in number and in testimony, so that all the Irish will see that only the Gospel can give the hope that they need.
